Biography
Early life, education, career.
Nasiru Sani Zangon Daura was born on the twenty-third of January, 1959, in the historic emirate of Daura in what is today Katsina State. He is the son of the late Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura, a former Federal Minister — a household in which public service was both a calling and a discipline.
His secondary education was completed at Barewa College, Zaria, the institution that has shaped generations of Northern Nigerian leaders. He then pursued further studies in the United Kingdom, before returning home to complete his tertiary education at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
In 2011, he was elected to the House of Representatives on the platform of the APC. He would go on to serve three consecutive terms in the House — twelve years during which he sponsored legislation, served on key committees, and built a deep, first-hand understanding of the federal legislative process.
In 2023, the people of Katsina North elected him to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, and as Vice Chairman of both the Committee on Culture and Tourism and the Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.
Outside of legislative chambers, the Senator’s work is defined by sustained grassroots engagement: employment facilitation, empowerment programmes, community infrastructure, and direct personal support for constituents navigating hardship.
“Legislation on the floor of the Senate must ultimately answer to the well in the village, the transformer on the pole, and the student with school fees to pay.”
